I've taken the back off to check for anything inside but cant see anything, its a sort of sweet (not a pleasant sweet) smell, maybe like a pee smell its really hard to explain but its not nice at all. On top of this is a dissipater tray which collects all the defrost water and allows it to evaporate off to atmosphere. It does not smell like rotting food, nor a dead animal trapped somewhere, nor urine from the cats. Using a sponge, drain the water out of this tray.

Inside the fridge smells fine, this smell is external.
