If you find your ice maker not working but water …
I worked on it for nearly two weeks, but still no ice. A freezer has two water sources -- the ice maker’s water supply and defrost condensation. Check the drain and clear it if there is a clog. No Ice. Disconnected water line from inlet valve to ice maker and found water was not getting to ice maker from inlet valve (new inlet valve). If your ice maker is frozen over we recommend defrosting the unit by unplugging it or turning it off at the breaker and then performing the reset step below. Make sure that the water pressure to the valve is at least 20 psi. Normally the pump will pump the water needed and this is a good place to start. If an ice maker is leaking, it means water is not getting to vital components. Pull it out from the wall, and eyeball the plastic hose that runs from your ice maker and water filter down the back of the appliance. When humidity freezes, it forms frost on the exposed surfaces in the freezer compartment and on the evaporator coil. I have ensured there is not ice in the water inlet. With hot summer days approaching, a broken ice maker is an urgent issue.
Initial valve would operate, valve for door water would operate, but the icemaker valve would not. Opal uses a refrigeration system to turn the water into ice - this warm air is a normal by-product of refrigeration. Even if the ice maker is leaking water into the bin, ice can clump together, making it very difficult to dispense into glassware. However, if ice from the ice maker makes it into this drain, it can clog it, and the water accumulates in either the fresh-food compartment or the bottom of the freezer in a side-by-side model. The power cord for the icemaker is plugged into the left or back wall of the freezer. I traced it back and this is the same voltage being provided to the ice maker. There is a small thermostat attached to the tray which is sensing the temperature. If you can swap the connectors on the water valve, empty ice maker, and press water switch for nine seconds, the mold should fill up. Failure to use either of these devices will create a risk of damaging your machine and will void the warranty. I hooked it up, let it run, and again no ice. Water leaking from a freezer into the refrigerator compartment ruins food and causes odors. If ok, probably a bad ice maker. If the water inlet valve has sufficient pressure and is getting power, but the ice maker won’t fill with water to make ice, replace the water inlet valve. If the water pressure is sufficient, use a multimeter to check for power to the water inlet valve. All modern ice makers have the same size mold.
